Seems more like a prequel to me, faith seems younger, more antsy and rebellious like a teenager in this game. In the first one she seemed older, more in control and mature.
It would be cool if catalyst were a sequel, with Faith getting out of the jail after rescuing her sis in the first game. And the other runners helping her after the dead of Merc, and the city changing in the time she was in jail. It would be much more coherent.

There is literally a comic series/graphic novel that explains Catalyst's backstory, and I'll admit, I wouldn't understand a lot of things in the game had I not read it first.
So after going through part of the game and ruining the ending because someone failed to use the proper spoiler tag I can conclude that this game is a
prequel, not a reboot.
Dude, it's a reboot. The fact that the faith in this game is younger than the one in the original game is irrelevant. The stories are in completely different universes.

Lol I feel like I'm trying to make a connection because I want there to be one so badly.
If you feel confused about the relationship of the story between the first Mirror's Edge and Mirror's Edge Catalyst, just think of Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a parallel universe to the first Mirror's Edge. It's a reboot, not prequel btw.
