*Spoilers* Opinions on the main story?

Hey all

So I just completed the main storyline and wanted to get other people's views on it.

Also, I don't have a clue how Kruger got killed. I'm guessing Isabel got him?

Comments

  • It was great! But the ending had a lot of open gaps, thats why I think there will be a sequel
  • I thought it was pretty decent myself, I think the game just needed to touch up on the character's motivations and personalities a bit more.

Yeah I couldn't tell how Kruger died either...I think he tripped and fell out of the chopper.
  • Honestly I thought the game was fantastic. Especially for a reboot that wasn't even expected to happen. I mean, it's been around 8 years since the original. And although the characters were kinda uninteresting, it turned out great. At least Faiths personal story and twists were well done and executed better than the rest. And whoever says the graphics are worse compared to the original are blind. Just saying.
Thanks for bringing a great game back to us EA, DICE and everyone else who worked on it:)
  • I liked it, it was fine and the story was my biggest fear. I loved the original MEs story, because it was simple, yet it caught my heart. Here? While I didn't love, I certainly liked it. So, well done.
Although the only characters I truly started to like were Faith and Plastic. The rest? I was indifferent, except Icarus. My God, he was so blunt and annoying. From the very beginning to the very end. He was simply the worst character in the Catalyst. I hope we won't see him again in the future. But I hope to see Celeste or Mercury.
I know Catalyst was a reboot, but Dice didn't have to replace every single character except Faith. That was actually disappointing. I was hoping to see the old squad in, maybe, new roles.

I completely agree with you. Instead of building a story from scratch, they could've modified the original story and expanded on that one. I kinda felt disappointed they removed Mercury and Celeste along with Jacknife and the rest (like Miller or Burfield) and replaced them with some pretty bland and uninteresting characters.

Noah and Dogan were pretty cool in my opinion, but Nomad, Icarus, Plastic and the rest were either uninteresting, annoying or didn't have enough complexity to make me even slightly interested in them.

Plus, I was hoping to see Callaghan which was the biggest mystery in the first game in my opinion.

This, exactly. I was excited to see Celeste in the comic book, so I was hoping there's a chance for Mercury as well. But it didn't happen. Celeste was just a placeholder in the main game. After what happened between her and Faith in the Exordium they should've talked at least once in the game.

I guess I should go read Exordium. I probably missed out on a lot of stuff.
  • @Up: Yes, do it. I really liked Celeste there. Faith? Not so much, but I'm glad she grew on my in the Catalyst. :)

  • I went into this game thinking it was a prequel to the first (since I am a huge fan of the first) and when I got to the end I found out it was a "retelling" of the story. Now is it just me or wasn't this game advertised as a prequel to the first. Also can anybody tell my why the arm tattoo/painting was so important. The game makes a big deal about it in the story like it is some secret code or a message but all we get in the end is that Faith really liked the painting.

Dunno about you, but I knew that the game is going to be a reboot from almost 2 years ago. They even confirmed it way before they even announced the first delay.
  • I wish it was longer. It felt like there was little time for character developmen. But the story was alright, just could have been longer.

I hoped Noah didn't get killed off before playing the game, but it was Merc all over again

Yeah, I hope that they will make a sequel, the chance is actually pretty high and I even made a forum topic out it: https://forums.mirrorsedge.com/discussion/2243/sequel-possible#latest
  • I thought I liked it at first, too. However, after thinking about, it isn't that good. More interesting than the first game, sure. But with more holes as well. I just posted a topic with my full thoughts if you want to read it. It's pretty long though. https://forums.mirrorsedge.com/discussion/2307/story-review-discussion-spoilers#latest
  • I will still play it though I am not sure for how long. A few interesting side missions and the lore behind it (documents and audio) is interesting, but a little cumbersome to find.
