Sudden lag issue

Hi guys, I've been playing the game for about 5hours no issue. Suddenly the game is unplayable. The lag is
too much even in the menus. What can the problem be?

Specs: i5, GTX 770 2gig, 8 gig ram - like I said, I've been playing it fine on medium to high settings and now even on the lowest it is unplayable.

DeV1 I've got your same problem: I've been playing it for a similar number of hours, on the lowest settings and then the lag becomes extreme both in-game and in the menus, without a logical reason.
i5,GTX 650, 16GB ram

I have that sometimes, especially after a death where I go through the ground because the ground is not "solid".
My guess is that there's a memory leak somewhere.
The best to do is quit and come back (for my case).
