Did Anita Sarkeesian's consultation at DICE influence Mirror's Edge Catalyst

And or was she brought on as a consultant in any way by EA during its development?

Comments

  • DICE claims that Anita Sarkeesian wasn't apart of the development in any way.
  • Does it matter? How would her input have affected the game? Mirror's Edge is pretty progressive as it is.
  • Yes it matters, I do not want to support any company who gives her money.
  • Hold up. Hundreds of people worked countless 60-hour weeks to get this game to people. This game was a risk to develop, and video game development is not an industry with a lot of job security. So, you will not support these people who sacrificed time with families and life partners, who need to eat, because you disagree with a feminists opinions? Just wondering.
  • BTW, Anita Sarkeesian was not involved in development in this game.

  • It doesn't matter. It just doesn't. I don't like Sarkeesian either, but even if she was involved (everything of any merit suggests she wasn't), does it truly detract from the game? Did you see evidence of some horrible misandrist agenda in the game? 'Cos I didn't.

Judge the game on its own merits. If DICE consulted with someone you don't like then blame the people who decided to do that, not the entire studio and its products.

Which guideline did this post violate? Also it looks like the post is still up.

If the Westboro baptist church was involved in the development of Mirrors Edge and made commission, would you still support it?

I haven't played the game yet so I have no way of judging it, I just want to know where my money is going before I pay for it. I don't care what the game's agenda is, I want to play it, but I want to speak with my wallet and not reward people who are con artists and a detriment to the industry.

Even if she was still somehow speaking to them, I can't see how that would make her entitled to a share of the income that the game generates. It's not like she's in the end credits or anything.

    Enjoy the game.
  • I don't know much about her, but from what I've learnt just searching her now, it sounds like Anita isn't a feminist, she's a misandrist. In any case, she's apparently uninvolved with the game, so you can rest easy knowing you aren't supporting her beliefs.

If the game was a masterpiece, most likely. I mean, Heidegger joined the NSDAP but he also gave quite a few remarkable philosophical pieces. There's a difference between the person and the object produced by him. The question is wrongly asked, if the subject that is concerned is Westboro baptist church then it should be dealt locally and separated.
There were tons of work involved in the game, that is true. We expected more on the story side, we got disappointed. But I think we're also over-reacting, because I find that the true beauty of this game is to roam around and make time trial / beat L.E. I care very little now for the story, and I'm pretty sure the game was designed that way and it succeed IMO. It's not wasted hours of work from DICE team, it's just a new experience.
  • "You might have heard of a heated issue among some of the fans of the Mirror’s Edge series..."
This is the opening line pulled directly from the above linked (http://segmentnext.com/2014/12/17/anita-sarkeesian-no-part-mirrors-edge-2-development-says-ea/)
Now whoa whoa whoa, let's get something straight here. I laughed at the word "series." Mirror's Edge is a bad game with a **** remake at best. It's not a series. Now don't get me wrong, I do enjoy these games. Games worth playing? Yes. But not good games. Series...pffft. okay.

I remember the controversy and they said clearly that she didn't have anything to do with it. It was some **** rumour that people believed. It showed that a lot of people were interested in this game and they didn't want a Feminist to ruin it.

Edit, why is the word that means not smart censored on this forum?

Apparently I got censored for saying the obvious: there is enough "social progress" references in the game with Faith as main character and Plastic as a black young girl that made major role in the story (and I NEVER said I didn't like it; in fact, I loved the character of Plastic and even more Faith, if not, I wouldn't help paying you guys' salary). What do you EA guys think I am part of? White Supremacy? Am I offending someone, saying something that IS NOT TRUE? We all know in today's time a lot of things can annoy this social activism only for the fact that "there is no woman". With BF1 was the same thing and you guys could feel the **** that it was to have to explain that in WWI women didn't play a significant role in infantry.

Can we please get our facts straight here? Is anyone going to trigger and I'll get censored again? Let people have freedom of speech, if you find them ****, let the public say.

Edit: the word censored in this message is the opposite to smart. Heil political correctness!

    Yes indeed. And inaudible.
  • Dead end, ANITA SARKEESIAN wasn't part of the development team. This topic deserves a lock before it gets into a storm.
  • Can a mod lock this thread, please? It's serves no purpose, other than to incite unnecessary arguments.
  • Locked.
