Advice for a superfan that is getting a bit of motion sickness? — Mirror's Edge™ Catalyst Forums
Been looking forward to this game ever since the announcement! Ordered the collector's edition, poster book, game art, etc... But for some god %&$# reason, I'm getting motion sickness from it. Never happened with the first, so I'm thinking it's my old age. Eh. Father time is undefeated. I can get away with short sessions, but if I can only play for 30 mins at a time I'm going to go nuts! Super bummed because I love this game and really enjoy it - so different than anything else out there.
Anyone else experiencing this? If so, any advice? I zoomed the FOV all the way out and that seems to help, as does concentrating on the white dot when I feel it coming on, but open to suggestions. I'm desperate to play enough to pick up a 1000 pack of Dramamine if I have to!
Try to focus on the middle of the screen and try changing where you are sitting and looking at your screen from. Also make sure you have the lights on, this helps my friend who gets motion sickness easily
Yeah, definitely play with the FOV setting and focus on a single point during rolls and such. You might also want to check the settings for your television/computer screen to see if you can tweak the settings affecting frame-rate and motion. If it's really important to you, there are also medications to help with motion sickness as well.

This.
One of the regular triggers is display response time. If you're using a tv as a monitor, go into the settings menu and turn off all of the post-processing options. If you're lucky, and using something like a Samsung, there'll be a 'game mode' that does all of that for you. If not, look for things like '100Hz' smoothing. Anything that messes with the image or tries to improve it, will increase the time between you making changes on the control, and those changes being displayed.
When I first started playing Catalyst, I got severely motion sick. I changed the FOV settings to "65" and started playing with the lights on, and then I didn't get motion sickness at all. Eventually I started playing with the lights off, and I still didn't get sick. So I think the FOV change helped a lot.
