A better way to find collectables besides looking them up?

After failing to find the runner bag in the game's smallest area for like 2 hours, I've come to the conclusion that there's no good way to do it. The bags are just too small to be seen from anywhere except the place you find it. I don't want to look them up though and spoil how to get to them. Is there a better way to sort of get "hints" as to where collectables like that are?

take delivery and diversion missions. they'll send you in places you'd never expect.

doing side missions can lead you to places you havent been before, or jump and climb on anything that looks climbable and you will find stuff you would usually miss.
i hope you are aware that some of the main mission have documents, bags, etc as well.
