Why does Catalyst use the Frostbite 3 engine? — Mirror's Edge™ Catalyst Forums
It's not a big deal to me, but I believe the game runs on the engine DICE built BF 3 with. That is an engine over 5 years old. Can the Xbox One not run the FB 4 engine very well?
There's no such thing as Frostbite 4. Battlefield 3 used FB2. Catalyst uses the latest version of Frostbite 3 (also used in Star Wars: Battlefront, Need for Speed, PvZ Garden Warfare 2 and upcoming Battlefield 1)

Oooh. Huh well I stand corrected. Then why does Battlefront look so good compared to Catalyst?

Because in Battlefront you have to load every time you play a new match, and the maps are minuscule compared to the map in mirror's edge. In ME:C you can explore the entire city of glass (underground, buildings, story) and never see single loading screen. It would take way too much vram to keep all of it going at once if it looked like battlefront.

I think it's just different tastes. Maybe Battlefront's photorealistic look is more exciting to you? Because I think Catalyst looks phenomenal. They look nothing alike when you compare their art directions. It's a very heavily stylized game.
On the technical side: Sometimes there are LoD issues, but maybe there will be a patch for that. I think it's a Frostbite thing. I've had texture streaming issues in BF4, NFS: Rivals, Battlefront (Beta)
I also recommend watching "Lighting Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" video.
The visuals on MEC are wonderful if you pay attention to the "right" details. Standing still and staring at walls, then the textures look like on 10y old games but when running around and catching the reflection on glass walls, that´s when the game shines. Have getting used to the routes and moves and can pay more attention to details and its really scenery to travel from one part to another, especially near Ocean Pier.
Why they haven´t found a solution on cut scenes on Frostbite engine puzzles me the most, especially when Dragons Age Inquisition they used a solution by enabling -GameTime.MaxSimFps 30 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 30+ to reduce desynchronisation problems. Console doesn´t suggest those cmds at all and adding in game shortcut didn´t have any effect also.
I mean IT IS a IN HOUSE game engine and still can´t figure things out or pass on tips to next team developing game...

I love the photorealism of Battlefront and other AAA shooters, like Halo, for example, seeing as I am a twelve year Halo player. But I also love unique graphics and art styles. Mirrors Edge has a uniqueness that nothing else has, as far as I know. Thats me: photorealism and uniqueness. they can be mixed together or build separately for one experience.

Never thought of that. The other poster mentioned that as well.
