I just realised it, but...

Do you remember this part in Gabriel Kruger's character description on the website? :
"[...] within Kruger there are also feelings of conflict and guilt, stemming from the death of a loved one."
I REALLY don't remember seeing of hearing references of this fact in the final game, it's kinda weird if you ask me.
Maybe it's an another hint for future DLCs? I'm really hoping for some announcements at Gamescom this year, if EA is having a conference of course.

Comments

  • I definitely remember this, and yes, the main story in the game didn't make any reference to it. Which is weird, because I thought it would have been an important part of Kruger's character development, and his reasoning behind Reflection.
The Intel section of the website reveals that the 'loved one' is his son- a police officer who was killed in the November Riots, and I assume that one of the collectables in the game is a document titled Gabriel Kruger, with that information in there.
Me too! I've looked forward to every conference ever since MEC was announced at E3 2013. :)

  • The storyline did make reference to it. Remember the flashback sequence where Faith shoots the guard with the scar on his hand? That's Kruger's son.
  • The backstory has many subtle elements like this. There's also a clear pattern of "repetition" where Faith Kill Kruger's Son, who kills Faith parents. Both Faith and Kate get adopted and both "kill" in a sort the adopted father of the other. It's kind of a melodramatic epic story that doesn't fit at all the parkour mood in my opinion. The first one managed better, mainly because it was not a sad story. It had dramatic moment to give a motive to the character to go ahead but never crossed the line of the ultimate drama. I can't really see a Mirror's Edge be a drama, it's too colorful, sport like, fun and light. In my opinion it should go the complete opposite way for the next installment with something lighthearted. Not that I dislike the politic background behind it, with runner smuggling informations, I think it's brillant, but they shouldn't put so much complot theory and legendary character, it should stick for something plausible and accessible that I could believe.
  • Faith kills a K-SEC guard during the November Riots. In my headcanon, this K-SEC guard was Kruger's son.

"Everyone dies around you, Faith! Haven't you thought that maybe you're the one to blame!" -Kruger

So Kruger adopts Cat Connors and nurtures her into what he thinks a model citizen should be, now the replacement for his lost son. The death of his son combined with his extreme views makes Kruger hate those who are off the Grid like Runners and Black November passionately.
  • Speaking of, anyone else remember the part on the Characters page on the website about Icarus having a secret that only Noah is aware of? that's never really explained either
  • I guess it was a mistake to assume that the game didn't include specific things when it was me who never noticed the subtle details. Wow, thank you all for pointing them out to me. The theme of repetition is quite interesting, almost like an element of karma. And some of Kruger's comments, which just seemed random before, actually make sense now. I was planning to replay the game anyway, but now I'll pay even more attention when I do so.

It might be part of a collectable in the game. There's one recording which shows how Icarus is found by Noah and some other runners. Maybe more of his past will be revealed this way?
