Mirrors Edge Or catalyst

I don't understand why they made mirrors edge catalyst. I just finished it and i thought it was amazing, the combat, the polished classic parkour mechanics (even thought it wasn't as good as he original) and the story which I thought was also very well done. However why would they not just continue the story from the previous game?? It was extremely successful and on top of how well put together he game was it ended on a $@&;!# cliff hanger! The story never ended in a way. It just shows faith and Kate safe, similar to Catalyst, but in Catalyst you actually see things have concluded. I feel almost as though there was an extra mission to come after M.E1. Does anyone else think they should have just made a part 2 to follow the first or are they even going to pick up? Or was catalyst a better path for the story? I hate having to forget about where it all started out.
