Dash top record times and tips

I was wondering if there were any tip videos out there for getting faster times on dash's aside from watching the actual world record videos.

I'm asking because I have found a lot of times I am taking the exact same route as the top person on the leaderboard or at least the fastest time I can find on YouTube and yet I am still a couple seconds shy of their time. I can get in the top 1% but the person ranked Nr1 is usually at least a full second faster if not a couple more.

Is there any specific things that can be done to shave off a couple milliseconds? Or do you have any opinions on what you can do to go faster? I heard jumping and coiling gets you faster but either I am doing it wrong or I'm not seeing any difference.

Without being able to see your speed like in the first mirrors edge it's hard to tell when you are losing speed or when you are at your fastest. I think wall running use to get you up to speed and zip lines were the fastest way to travel in ME1 but in MEC idk any of the details so if you have any tips or know where I can find any info then thanks ahead of time.

I have found a couple useful things.

When being pulled up by the mag rope or whatever it's called if you press and hold L2 to let go and coil at the very top just before you grab the ledge you can avoid grabbing the ledge and taking a long time to climb up and instead you will get right up on the ledge.

Another thing I've found if you jump to a rail you can land on the rail instead of grabbing it if the rail bends and you jump to the corner. I'm not sure of the specifics of this though.

You can lessen the time of a long fall if you land on a rail and instead do the animation for hopping over a rail. Again though I'm not sure on the specifics of this like how it works but I know it does at least in some cases lol.

What would be nice is to know exactly how the game calculates everything but idk any of that so that's ideally what I'm looking for.

  • Hello, I can try to help. I have world record on 14 of the dashes atm.

Firstly, coiling doesn't work anymore. It worked in ME1 and in MEC Beta but not in retail version because DICE decided to remove it.

Instead what was discovered is that you can wall boost. To do this you have to come from a slightly narrow angle and when you place your foot on the wall, quickly turn and then jump. You can actually keep the speed up if you time your jump exactly when you land (this takes a lot of practice to nail perfectly). This way you can speed up the dashes.
For illustration, watch my video on Youtube for "Under construction" dash:

Also the other things about the magrope and such are correct as you say. Also avoid springboard jumps and just do 2 regular ones on rails etc. Can be hard to time but it's faster than to do the full spring animation.

  • Thanks for the reply, I'll have to check out the video you mentioned.
I had figured they removed the coil jumping trick as I didn't see people using it in the videos I have seen nor have I seen any effect from it. I tried like **** to get under 18 seconds on nomads run last night and on one of my first tries today I finally got under 18 seconds. I tried to add a couple wall boosts to my route and I guess it helped, that or I managed to get off the mag rope and over the ledge faster I'm not sure which because I only saved half a second.

There are a lot of videos you can watch to see what people have figured out for what is to believe is the straightest path. Then, you'll need a lot of practicing to make the perfect run. It's very hard to get the combine combo all perfect. But you eventually ends up doing it if you keep pushing. It's a game, failure is allowed. Repeat until success ;)

  • Hello! I'm top 1% on all, and got three top 10's and what I can really say is look up the WR routes on youtube, but some things they do is not optimal.

    * As earlier said, try to learn the wallrun boost as it will help alot; also something to know that, even though the difference is minimal, you can also do a wallrun AROUND a corner to quickly jump into the right direction rather than jumping off before the corner and then running around said corner. It's hard to describe what I mean, but I'm sure you can figure it out.

    * Try to learn the speedboost glitches such as bunnyhopping, boosting of the Opportunity Mission 'devices', Zipline boosts, MAG-rope boosts etc. Someone who does theese glitches and show them off in a good way is the user "Zen" on YouTube. Search for "Zen mirror's edge" and his channel is the first. :)

*Bunnyhopping can be done from several things; the easiest is after a wallrun boost. The timing takes time to learn but it's worth it. This can also be done from after a MAG-rope Swing, though this is ALOT harder to time.

*Try to figure out some specifik route glitches! There's a wallrun boost that can be done, on that one Dash I can't remember the name on, where you jump just as the wall transitions into a vent as well as a zipline boost where you jump onto the zipline from an 75-90 degree angle and then let go at the right timing to be sent flying in the opposite direction of where the zipline leads. This glitch is especially useful on the Rezoning Dash.

Practice theese things and your times should start to increase. I hope it helps. (:
  • Interesting! That's it! I'm running tonight!

I don't know about this one though, what is it?

Also there seems to be a way to finish the dash faster. Just when you are going to the final point, jump and do a 180 and then SHIFT backwards into the goal area.

It's on Feature Creep. Here's a video of the glitch being utilized. :)
